When, if ever, will Ukrainian refugees return home?

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in early 2022 caused a huge exodus of refugees, now estimated to number almost 7 million (one in six of the pre-war population). The longer the war continues, the fewer refugees are likely to return home.

This is the case with refugees all over the world. Your gifts have brought hope to

refugees living in Moldova, a country with a population of 2.4 million people. Moldova has hosted the highest numbers of Ukrainian refugees per capita.

It is also considered one of the poorest countries in Europe, which is why Refugee Relief has focused on this area. Through your donations, thousands of Ukrainian refugees

have been blessed with food and other resources. But with rumors of a peace deal, will Ukrainian refugees return as soon as peace is declared?

Across Europe, some 4.3 million refugees could soon have the option of returning to a peaceful Ukraine, but many no longer want to.

A recent survey indicated less than a quarter plan to return to Ukraine once their refugee visas expire. And some demographers warn that only one-third or one half of emigrants may come back, depending on how long the war lasts. Some have nothing to return to with homes and livelihoods destroyed. Others have lost family members and fear losing more if they return. Refugee Relief continues to monitor the situation and the vulnerability of refugees in Moldova.

Thank you for your past support of these vulnerable refugees. I’m asking you to pray for a ceasefire and long-lasting peace in Ukraine. Pray for the refugees in Moldova and the

rest of the world to find the inner strength to return to their homeland.
